Silicon Speech Meeting Minutes July 13th 2013

We were online last night and it was my first meeting as President. All members were well behaved as the baton was passed from Steve to me. We started off the meeting with Karan showing us how to share posts from our Resource Library across social media: click on the post you want to share -> scroll to the button -> client on button for Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. This is a great way to share public speaking knowledge with others AND promote the club. When someone clicks on the link, it will take them back to our Resource Library on our club’s website.

Speaker Recap
Ashton delivered a pathway speech about meditation – his 2nd speech already as a new member ????. In his speech, he took us back to his college years and shared his journey on how and why he has a meditation practice. In his speech he referenced a book by Dan Harris called 10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works. I’m not a big reader but recently read this and recommend it!
I missed the last 2 meetings but made up for it by delivering a speech. As the newly appointed president, I called it a “State of the Union” address where I shared with members why I decided to become president and informed the club what the leadership team will be focusing on for the rest of the year to increase club membership and awareness.
Karan used his toastmaster skills to deliver a solid round of Table Topics which tied back to the speeches’ topics of meditation and leadership. I must say, as a group, we always ask tough questions and deliver honest answers!
