It was our last meeting of the Toastmasters fiscal year and it was quite an event. Two more of our members, Len Kung and Azita Sachmechian achieved new Levels in Pathways which should be what we need to become a President’s Distinguished Club this term. I’ll wait for the official acknowledgment from Toastmasters International before I make a definitive announcement and pop the Champaign cork. Stay tuned.
Armando Yee was our “Toast with the Most” and he guided the proceedings with skill and ardor. Lauren Clayton’s beautiful Thought for the Day was from Napoleon Hill.
Karan Bavandi followed with a clever joke for all of us font lovers. And, we were off and running!
The aforementioned, Len Kung gave us a timely guide about the Do’s and Don’ts of delivering a speech in a social setting such as a wedding toast. Anyone who’s suffered through a “wedding speech that “went off the rails” can appreciate the value of knowing what to do and how to do it. Thank you, Len, for this public service. Azita Sachmechian was up next with an inspiring talk about how leadership is learned like any other skill. So, if you think you suck at leadership, you aren’t a hopeless case. You just need to get to work.
Speeches were followed by thoughtful and constructive evaluations by Li Xin and yours truly then Shar McBee took to our virtual stage as TTM, Table Topics Master. Shar asked us to reflect on the pandemic, what we’re doing now and what we may do when it’s over. Marisol Zumaeta is cooking healthy things and boosting the ol’ immune system. Lauren Clayton is showing people how to be all they can be (see quote above). Armando Yee is keeping an open mind. Kenzii plans on hitting the road, and the always philosophical Karan Bavandi reminded us that, “wherever you go, there you are”.
Then it was Luis Hurtado who stepped up with the observation that “It will all be over soon” and sure enough, it was, right at 7:00 o’clock.
