Leadership skills and dating advice, at Silicon Speech!
Filling in for President Alex was our very own Vice President of Education, Steve. Steve gave a warm welcome to our guests Ananta and Dani. Steve also mentioned the upcoming officer election. We have a couple prestigious roles up for grabs. So if you’re considering a role, please contact Steve. Deadline is at the end of the month, so think quickly!
Joke of the Day was by Lou. Thesaurus is terrible, and also it’s terrible.
Ananta was our Thought of the Day. “There are two ways to live your life. One as though everything is a miracle. The other, as if nothing is a miracle.” -Albert Einstein.
Toastmaster was our resident philosopher, Karan.
Evan played double duty and was our Ah counter and Grammarian. The impromptu word of the day was “Harried”. It means beset by problems or harassed. It’s used as a verb.
First Speaker was, Jaclyn. Jaclyn completed the “Understanding Leadership Styles” in her pathways path. Jaclyn took us down memory lane with her first leadership role as the leader of neighborhood war. In her journey in leadership over the years, Jaclyn has now taken up the role as an entrepreneur. Her experience as a planner, manager and coordinator over the years has given her plenty of experience in some challenging roles. She is far from the days of choosing water guns and spray bottles to attack the neighborhood kids. Talk about an inspiring speech. Thanks, Jaclyn!
Second Speaker was Shar. Shar is preparing for an upcoming speech. Shar is her name and PowerPoint is her game. Shar has supervised hundreds of people over the years and it was challenging. She shared three tips on how to manage that stress. First tip, when things get heavy, lighten up. Second tip, people are happiest when they feel like they belong. Lastly, small things make a big difference. Yes shar, we will learn to sin. I mean sing. Splendid speech! Thank you Shar.
The General Evaluator was Armando.
Lou evaluated Jaclyn. Lou pointed out how a neighborhood war brought the neighborhood together.
I evaluated Shar. It’s always difficult evaluating a seasoned speaker. She showed off her tech skills and I enjoyed her personal stories and leadership tips.
The Table Topics Speaker was Li. Li chose the theme “social media”.
Karan would let Facebook be what it was intended for, communication. Profit is important, but not to the expense of its intended use.
Steve’s children are quite the salesmen when it comes to technology. It’s hard to say no, but you don’t want your children to be behind that tech train either.
Ananta’s favorite social media is Instagram. Sharing pictures and getting information is simple and convenient.
Dani thinks social media censorship is good if it incites violence.
Armando’s advice to his female family members using dating sites? Use common sense. This is the 21st century and online dating is here to stay. The pandemic has really put a set back in meeting the old fashion way. Be cautious and maybe Toastmaster will also be the “match making master”.
Jaclyn thinks Facebook is great for business owners. Privacy however, is questionable.
Sarah’s first social media was Zynga. Customizing was fun. Then came Facebook, Instagram and now TikTok.
Evan’s thoughts on manipulating stocks through social media. Although day traders are going back to their day jobs. Yes, it’s going to continue.
Would Kenzii prefer to live in the current time, or a time without social media? She would love to see the world without social media but can’t picture how dating would work. Because cyberstalking your date prior to meeting is a must. Maybe organic dating is just as romantic as a beautifully written Tinder profile.
That’s all from me. Special thanks to Ananta and Dani for dropping by. Loving the theme of leadership with a twist of dating. This sounds familiar, Shar! Sending good vibes and blessings from the tech gods on your upcoming speech. Thank you everyone for participating and spending your valuable time on this club. Silicon Speech is nothing without you! Go team go!
