Hi Everyone,
Last night, our Silicon Speech Toastmasters meeting was smooth, fun and well run thanks to Li Xin, large and in charge in his first stint as Toastmaster. He oversaw a meeting which included a joke by Karan Bavandi about a Trump fan (it’s not what you think) and a great Thought for the Day by guest Blake Samuelle which bears repeating, “It’s not the answer that enlightens, but the question” – Eugene Ionesco.
A special shout out to other guests who volunteered for roles last night. Angus Perkerson was superb as our Timer and, once again, won Best Mic of the Night. And, Kenzi Rose did something I’ve never seen done before; meticulously, counting Ah’s and Um’s as she traveled down the 405. She wasn’t the one driving, at least I don’t think so. Our Grammarian last night was none other than long time member and “King of the Virtual Backgrounds”, Sam Nazarian! I also want to thank Jasmine Kent for joining us, once again.
Yours truly was the first speaker and I attempted the Sisyphean task of doing comedy on a Zoom call. I guess it’s all a part of how things are done in the new normal.
Armando Yee was up next treating us to a virtual trip down the Nile revealing “3 Mysteries of Egypt Beyond the Great Pyramids”. We learned a lot including why it’s a good idea to take along a few extra qirshes if you want to do a selfie with a sarcophagus.
The speeches were followed by insightful and supportive evaluations by Karan Bavandi and Alex Schams then Len Kung took center stage and conducted the Table Topics portion of the meeting which explored the positive side of the pandemic.
Genevieve Kelly told us about how she’s called in the repairman during her time at home so a dive into her Jacuzzi isn’t a shocking experience.
Blake Samuelle has dreams of telecommuting during the pandemic from a mega-yacht off the coast of someplace I can’t pronounce.
Azita Sachmechian is keeping quiet and walking slowly to keep her mind and body in tip-top shape. I think Teddy Roosevelt said something similar.
Shar McBee loves to travel but hates airplanes so she would like her pandemic superpower to be the ability to “beam” herself from place to place. Are you listening, Scotty?
And, finally, guest Angus Perkerson is grateful for the time to check out heartwarming films like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. And, when he says heartwarming, he means heartwarming.
Once again, it was a terrific meeting and a good time was had by all.
