Meeting Minutes – 05.07.2020

Mentorship was the theme that developed at last night’s Silicon Speech meeting which marked the triumphant debut of Lauren Clayton as our Toastmaster. She looked like she has been doing this all her life as she guided us through an action packed Agenda. Urja Nadibail, once again, brought the heat as Joke Master recounting a job interview which ended with a punch line containing those two words no employee wants to hear.

After a very thoughtful Thought of the Day from Marisol Zumaeta, Alex Schams was our first speaker with a great speech about Warren Buffet, everybody’s dream mentor. I think we can all learn from a self-made man who started with nothing and is now worth around 70 billion dollars! Let’s hear it for the Oracle of Omaha! Yours truly followed with a speech about the mentors available to one and all. No need to get apoplectic if you don’t have that seasoned individual to guide you through life. These mentors are right at your fingertips.

The speech contained a shameless plug for the Toastmasters mentorship program. There will be a separate email about how we can launch this at Silicon Speech.

Speeches were followed by supportive and insightful evaluations by Len Kung and Karan Bavandi then, First Laddie Luis Hurtado led Table Topics which covered everybody’s favorite subject these days, “What are you doing during the big quarantine of 2020”? We learned about morning routines, favorite things to cook, trails to hike, books to read and restaurants we want to visit after things reopen. Even Murder Hornets, Elon Musk and baby X Æ A-12 became part of the conversation. All in all, it was a great meeting!

The Silicon Speech Study Hall will be held again, this Tuesday. This is an opportunity for us to get together, informally, outside of the meeting to work together to become better public speakers. Do you have questions about Pathways? Are you working on a speech and would like feedback? Would you like help with other aspects of public speaking? If so, please join us Tuesday nights at 6:00.
