Meeting Minutes – 04.09.2020

Hi Everyone,

Quarantine or no quarantine, the members of Silicon Speech moved forward last night in a never ending quest to become vocal ninjas in our current environment by polishing our online communications skills. Jon Wald was our Toastmaster and he did a great job guiding us through this week’s Agenda.

Marina Romanova was our first speaker and she introduced us to Cheer her favorite series on Netflix. This docu-series follows the nationally ranked, 40-member Navarro College Bulldogs Cheer Team from Corsicana, Texas as they prepare to compete in the National Cheerleading Championship. She had us all doing “Mat Talk” before the end of her speech and I know what I’ll be watching this weekend. If you would like to know more, check this out!

We’ll probably never be able to move like the cast of Cheer but there is a visual element to public speaking and we explored the topic in the second speech of the night by yours truly.

The speeches were evaluated by our skillful panel of expert analysts, Armando Yee and Dustin Guay, then Alex Schams, our TTM took the virtual stage. Alex had crafted Table Topics questions about our current, self-isolated, socially distanced, situation and our members gave us a glimpse into how they’re spending time at home. Questions included things like, “What would you do at home with a red solo cup and deck of playing cards?” Tough questioned but one that was skillfully answered with a response that included a treadmill and a bottle of bourbon. Being quarantined brings out the creativity in all of us. All in all, it was a great meeting and I want to thank everyone who signed on to attend.

We’ll do it again next week and here’s our line-up for Thursday night. All we need is an Ah Counter at this point. Let me know if you would like to fill the role and I’ll put you down. If your name is Armando, Dustin, Karan or Luis please send your intro to Alex.
